Individually Quick Frozen Blueberries

Blueberries, IQF-The taste of summer! Sun-ripened blueberries are sweet and plump, with a crisp, juicy sweetness. Their bright, complex flavor is almost decadent in its simplicity, and fresh, just-picked blueberries are a treat beyond comparison. Clearly we could write a novel about our love for this fruit!
Despite their sweetness blueberries are actually some lowest sugar content fruits. Having anthocyanins (red, blue, and purple fruits) makes them nutritional powerhouses, high in many antioxidants and vitamins. Blueberries are part of the vaccinium family, which also includes cranberries. They are native to North America and can grow wild here, although the blueberries we commonly enjoy are cultivated ‘high-bush’ varieties.
We all know blueberries are commonly enjoyed in a variety of desserts and ice creams, but they can also be used for savory dishes such as blueberry and caramelized red onion jam! Or toss them in salads, add them to a baked brie, and make a really fun hummus flavor (seriously!). Frozen blueberries are a great resource for smoothies, jams and compotes, and desserts such as pies or tarts.
